Bahrain-based Ithmaar Bank has launched the first biometric-enabled Automated Teller Machine (ATM) network in the GCC region.
Ahmed Abdul Rahim, the Chief Executive of Ithmaar Bank, said, “The initiative is a result of the financial support of Tamkeen, with the support of the Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB) and the Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB).”
The inauguration of biometric ATM network will now allow customers to use their fingerprint along with their PIN to process financial transactions instead of ATM cards, providing a simpler and more secure way to process financial transactions than ever before.
Ithmaar Bank stated that the network is based on a platform that was developed by Eazy Financial Services and built on Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS).
The bank’s customers are required to register their fingerprint data at their nearest branch to access the new service.
